What is a Model Railroad club? We are glad you asked!

Our club, Richmond Freelance & Prototype Model Railroaders is a non-profit 501(c) founded in 1974 at Broad Street Station in Richmond, before it became the Science Museum of Virginia. The club relocated to Ashland in 1998.

Our mission is to display and promote the art, craft and science of MR. We are an open membership club, sustained by donations, paid shows, and member dues.

Most of our members join to pursue their MR hobby in a group setting accessing larger setups than can be built at home. For many in our club, the driving motivation is to achieve realistic scenery, prototypical train operation, and collection of well-crafted replicas.

Our clubhouse features HO and N Scale in two separate club rooms. Our organization also supports the River City 3Rail O Scale club.
