What is a Model Railroad club? We are glad you asked!

Our club, Richmond Freelance & Prototype Model Railroaders is a non-profit 501(c) founded in 1974 at Broad Street Station in Richmond, before it became the Science Museum of Virginia. The club relocated to Ashland in 1998.

Our mission is to display and promote the art, craft and science of MR. We are an open membership club, sustained by donations, paid shows, and member dues.

For many in our club, the driving motivation is to achieve realistic scenery, prototypical train operation, and collection of well-crafted replicas.

Our clubhouse features HO and N Scale in two separate club rooms. Our organization also supports the River City 3Rail O Scale club.

We encourage new members to join us no matter what skill level, to learn and/or teach, but most of all to have fun.

We invite guests to watch us perform all aspects of the MR hobby and ask questions. Be prepared to “walk and talk” as our displays are usually work in progress.

Looking forward to seeing you at our next event! ?
