September 2017 – Jodie Brill, director of Piano Works Studios, is featured in this September’s Artist Spotlight. Jodie opened her new studio in March at Ashland Town Square (behind Domino’s Pizza), which is handicapped accessible. With two pianos in separate rooms, Jodie and her staff can provide lessons to fit just about anyone’s schedule.
Originally from North Carolina, Jodie has been the director of Piano Works Studios for 21 years and has been teaching piano for over 30 years. Jodie and her staff provide piano instruction for all ages—from young children to adults.
A lover of musical theatre and dance, Jodie also has experience teaching dance and providing piano accompaniment for dancers at the Richmond Ballet and Virginia Commonwealth University.
Jodie is very community minded, and has been involved in Ashland since she moved here with her husband, Arthur Brill, in 1994. Jodie teaches piano at Randolph-Macon College and provides accompaniment for the R-MC Concert Choir. She recently finished a 7-month interim position as organist and accompanist for Duncan Memorial Church.
During an average week in the Spring, Piano Works has about 30 students. What’s in store for the future at Piano Works? Jodie would love to have an early education program, workshops and more performances in the studio. Most year-end recitals are held at the old St. Ann’s church in May or June.
