Inaugural Ashland Easter Keg Hunt

Center of the Universe Brewing Company and Origin Beer Lab invite Ashland-based businesses to participate in the inaugural Ashland Easter Keg Hunt on April 20, 2019. Email Chris Ray to join.

The Premise:
Each participating business will receive an empty keg (3 different sizes, first come first served) that the business can decorate to match their branding, the season, or any other theme. The business will then display the Easter Keg inside or outside of their establishment for the 2 weeks leading up to the actual hunt with an accompanied explanatory event sign.

On April 20th, all participating businesses are to “hide” their keg within the Easter Keg Hunt zone by 11am. The kegs should be “hidden” in plain sight. Easter Keg Hunters will search indoors and outdoors within the zone from 2-4pm.

A passport card listing each business will be given out to Easter Keg Hunters. Passport can be picked up starting at 1:45pm at Origin Beer Lab. Each keg will have a serial number on an attached bright green tag the hunters will need to write down. Once they find all the Easter Kegs, they will return the completed passport card to Origin Beer Lab, along with their contact information, for candy or some other small giveaway. They will also be entered into a drawing to win an Ashland Easter basket filled with items donated by participating businesses.

Cost to Participate:

  • $20 per business, plus an item valued at $10+ for the grand prize Ashland Easter Basket.
  • All monies collected will be donated to the Ashland Main St. Association, minus marketing and promotional costs (Facebook ads, artwork, and passport printing).
What You Get:
  • A loaner empty keg to decorate.
  • Your business listed and linked on the Facebook event page.
  • Your business listed on paid social media advertising.
  • Poster(s) to put up at your location letting patrons know of your participation.
  • Cross promotion with all of the businesses participating.
Important Dates/Times:
  • March 29th: Deadline for Participation and Payment Submission
    • Payment can be made to and at Origin beer lab, or made out to and sent to Ashland Main Street Association directly
  • March 30th: Easter Keg Pickup at Origin Beer Lab – 12-5pm
  • April 6th – April 19th: Easter Kegs on Display at the Business
  • April 20th: Hide Easter Kegs prior to 11am; Easter Keg Hunt 2-4pm
A Few Other Details:
  1. These kegs are on loan for this event and will need to be returned to Origin Beer Lab after the Easter Keg Hunt.
  2. A map will be provided to show the Easter Keg Hunt zone boundary within downtown Ashland. This is done in order to prevent kids and adults from having to cross busy and sometimes dangerous intersections. For those businesses located within the “zone,” the kegs can stay inside their places of business, but you are not required to do so.
  3. Your business does not have to be open on the Saturday of the event in order to participate, but you will need to hide your Easter Keg within the zone by 11am on Saturday.
  4. There will be a spot on the passport card for hunters to pick their favorite Easter keg. The winning business will receive the “Golden Keg Award” trophy that they can display at their business until next year, their $20 fee refunded, and a special post on the Facebook event page following the event recognizing your exceptional Easter keg and business.
  5. In order to ensure a successful and worry free event, the deadlines above are firm.
  6. Businesses are encouraged to get their patrons/clients involved by holding a keg decorating day and allowing them to come in and help. These events are 100% driven by the individual business and are not required to take place in order to participate in the larger event.
  7. We cannot require anyone to purchase anything from any business in order to participate in the hunt. The purpose of the Easter Keg Hunt is to have a free community event that brings people out and into downtown and create awareness for all of the participating businesses.
  8. You are welcome to paint, glitterize, put on stickers, and anything else to the keg as long as you don’t damage them structurally. They are 100% stainless steel, so they can take a lot.
How to Sign Up:
  • To sign your business up for the Easter Keg Hunt, or if you have any questions, please email Chris Ray ( with “Easter Keg Hunt” in the subject line).
  • Availability to participate is limited and acceptance to participate will be given out on a first come first serve basis once payment is received. Payment arrangements will be made after you contact Chris Ray.
  • They can accept check by mail or in person, credit card in person or over the phone, and cash in person at Origin Beer Lab during taproom hours. Other arrangements can be made on a case-by-case basis.
